Helix 2013 Sangiovese

This lovely Sangiovese brings forth images of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – Spring, energetic with a delicate restraint. Blossoming aromatics and a bouquet of strawberry jam, rainier cherries and pomegranate celebrate with wisps from an Italian roast coffee at arms-length. Medium grained tannins possess a light grip on winter’s hardened soil while the wine’s softer acid ushers sundried pomegranate and black cherry with shades of plum and lightly toasted oak. Helix 2014 SoRho

SoRho is one of the most fun wines to make and is a customer perennial favorite. Mourvedre, Cinsault and Grenache grapes, that comprise this intriguing, food friendly wine, were harvested on the same day and  co-fermented on stems in small open top fermenters. Our goal was to capture the southern Rhone flavors from where these grapes are characteristically found. The wine has a ruby/magenta color with scents of violets and lavender, slightly baked blueberries, raspberries, pomegranate, beef carpaccio and hints of mushrooms. On the palate, soft tannins and a vibrant acidity usher in the flavors while introducing crushed mulberries, strawberry fruit leather and minerals. Helix 2014 Viognier

Stillwater Creek Vineyard in 2014 offered us an opportunity to shift our Condrieu (Northern Rhone) inspired 100% Viognier southward to Cotes du Rhone where Viognier is blended with Roussanne. On a lark, while loading our truck with Viognier, I accepted an offer for a one-third ton of Roussanne which turned into a fun little adventure and resulted in this lovely wine. It has a brilliant straw hue with honeysuckle, tangerine, mineral and faint herbal and floral aromatics that blossom on a smooth, unctuous medium weight palate.  Infused delicate jasmine, a hint of bee’s wax, a very thin slice of pear and stone fruit, apricot and white peach, add to this fun balanced equation.

Helix 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

There is no doubt this is the most relaxed Cabernet Sauvignon that we have ever produced. Fruit forward with well-worn khakis. Lofty aromatics are full of cherry and red plum, swirling with whiffs of sweet oak spice followed by a paper-thin slice of steak tartar. With its very soft tannins, the wine enters the mouth ever so gently yet with lively acidity that elevates a delightful blend of Chelan cherry, plum, currant and a hint of marionberry tagged with a

Helix 2012 Merlot

This is a sturdy Merlot, possessing a deep ruby color with a complex aromatic mix of dark fruit, incense, garden soil, bay leaf, chocolate and a breath of vanilla. Black currant and cherry charge the palate, riding over a texture of medium-round/slightly chewy tannins while chasing dried plums dipped in dark chocolate with drops of toffee and sprinkled with savory spice. Helix 2012 Syrah

Cellaring in 100% neutral oak permits the syrah to speak to its true character. Allowing for some breathing time, our 2012 Helix Syrah, with its rich garnet color, brings forth its Northern Rhone character, displaying aromas of light smoky gaminess, violets, attar, and a trace of lavender, baked blueberries and white pepper. The syrah rushes the entrance with black olive, blueberry, baked fig and plum, and mildly scours the palate with fine grain tannins, a scratch of pepper with smear of boysenberry. Helix 2015 Chardonnay

Stainless steel has brought to prominence a dramatic balance of mineral and fruit gifted by Stillwater Creek’s fractured basalt soils, high on the Royal Slope near the top of the Frenchman Hills. Wonderful aromas of ripe white pears and apple blossoms emerge from the glass with notes of citric and a touch of beeswax. Its perfect medium-plus body and acidity deliver clean flavors of pear with a slice of golden delicious apple, and a blade of lemon grass supported by a flinty/basalt minerality.  This is best served a touch on the cooler side.
